Folks, I shut off the RSS feed to LJ, because I want people to read at the actual site.  There is a lot more there than you will get from the RSS feed.  If you do want to RSS the entries, you can do that on the site - there is a link on the Meta section to sign up for a regular RSS feed.

Please bookmark www.frombearcreek.com/wordpress and read Animal Magentism there!

Hope to see you all on the new site.  Byebye LJ!

One More Time...

September 10th, 2010 (05:57 pm)

Please, folks, do not reply to the rss copies on your LJ Friends page.  I won't see them.  Please reply at the new blog at www.frombearcreek.com/wordpress.   You don't have to register, but it would be nice if you did.

Syndicated Feed Time

September 8th, 2010 (05:57 pm)

OK, folks, here is a syndicated feed where you can follow my new, improved, high-speed low-drag blog, Animal Magnetism:

Use it in good health!  From here on, all comments will have to be made on the new blog.  No registration is required, although it is encouraged, especially for all long-term True Believers.

I do this because I seem to be utterly unable to figure out Livejournal Crossposter.  Please note that you may also subscribe directly to Animal Magnetism via the RSS link on the Meta section of the main page!

Thursday Evening News Dump

September 2nd, 2010 (07:32 pm)

where I am: Aurora, CO
I'm feeling:: calm
I'm listening to:: Peter Gabriel - "In Your Eyes"

I suppose I should leave some reading material, since tomorrow evening sees ratchild13  and I heading into the mountains in pursuit of the elusive Colorado black bear.

The lovely young woman in the cowboy hat is not going bear hunting, nor to my knowledge does she know any bears personally.  Her appearance here is purely gratuitous.

So, on to your Labor Day weekend reading:

Why Older People Repeat Stories.  Wait, we do?  Really?

Euthenasia 101.  A sick whale put out of its misery - with TNT.  Because everything is better with explosives.

Why Older People Repeat Stories.  I hope I'm not this old already.

Hillary Clinton For President?  Someone is having some buyer's remorse?

From the "Oh, cool!" section: Evolution in Action:  From Egg-Laying To Live Birth.  P.S.:  Eat shit and die, Kent Hovind.

Why Older People Repeat Stories.  You know, the Old Man does this sometimes.

Utah Newspaper Cutting Staff in Half.  Somebody call 911 already!

Actual headline:  Google Butterfingers Slip Jazz Hands Bug into Gmail.  Wait, what?

Why Older People Repeat Stories.  Have you seen this?

We return you now to your Thursday, already in progress.

One Of Those Days

September 1st, 2010 (10:06 pm)

where I am: Aurora, CO
I'm feeling:: chipper
I'm listening to:: Def Leppard - "Pour Some Sugar On Me"

They say good fences make good neighbors.  But the right curtains (or lack thereof) can make great neighbors.

I see now that the bottom of the new-post thingie here on LJ now has repost buttons for Facebook and Twitter.  I know what Facebook is, and I am coming to despise it; but I've not experienced Twitter.  I see no real reason to, either, unless there is the chance to gather more True Believers to this blog, to spread the word, wit and wisdom of Animal far and wide.  But I confess I know little or nothing about publicizing a blog.  How does one go about that, anyway?

I suspect Twitter is not the way to go about it.  Reposting my musings, deep thoughts, news and totty on Twitter strikes me as a lot like peeing into a Niagara Falls and waiting for it to turn yellow.

So, any ideas?  Any thoughts on how to spread Animal Magnetism, the Word and the Way, far and wide?

On a related note:  From time to time I've given thought to starting my own religion.  As L. Ron Hubbard has proven, there's no better way to seperate the credulous from their cash, and amass some pretty impressive temporal influence in the doing; further, there comes a point where certain fools and their money (Tom Cruise) deserve to be parted.

Damn my sense of honesty.  That's the only thing that's preventing me from doing it.  Damn my having to look myself in the eye every morning when I shave.

Well, maybe another day.  Stay tuned, True Believers!  Ain't no telling what I might decide to do next.

Image:  The importance of physical fitness.

Off to the gym this morning, and not very happy about the experience.

By way of background:  Recently mrsanimal decided to purchase a home gym, one of those "all in one" units that is basically a gym unto itself.  With that done (well, almost - it's still in the box in the sun room, but in our defense it only arrived yesterday afternoon) we had been debating whether or not to keep our gym membership.

Well, I awoke early this morning, as I've been doing, and headed over there for my early-morning workout.  A guy my age has to take care of his physical condition, after all.  But when the kids running the gym at 0530 were playing gangsta rap music, blaring "motherf***er this, motherf***er that" at about 110 decibels, to the point where Bob Dylan on my iPod headphones could not begin to compete - well, that's it for me.  We'll cancel today, and tell them precisely why.

All you True Believers know I'm certainly no prude, nor am I a stranger to bad language; nor do I care what people listen on in the privacy of their own homes, own vehicles, or even their own headphones.  But broadcasting it like that in a health club crosses a line, and on the other side of that line lies "Animal, pissed off."  I wasn't the only middle-aged patron in the club that was unhappy this morning, either.

Moving right along:

This ganked from our friends at Maggie's FarmWhat Did The First Printers Print?  An interesting look at what Gutenburg did before his famous Bible.

Velociraptor's Big Brother:  The Stocky Dragon.  Cool new dinosaur find.  I remain as enthusiastic about dinosaurs as I was at eight years of age.

And, also from the wild, wild world of science, this actual headline: Dolphin Snot Offers Less Painful Source of DNA.  You can't make this stuff up.

We return you now to your Mittwoch, already in progress.
